Course description: Technology for learning

This course provides an introduction to current ICT tools, a brief overview of required hardware and software for accessing and creating digital learning resources, and looks at instructional uses of online publication tools, collaboration tools, multimedia and using authentic online materials. It deals with practical, effective ways of using technology in classroom instruction and covers basic configuration and use of online collaboration, publication and information management software.

The course aims for a balance between hands-on practical work that develops skills and produces results participants can use in their day-to-day work and theoretical discussions in order to deepen the understanding of the role and educational impact of technology in today’s classrooms. Such discussions will focus on: students’ and teachers’ strategies for self-directed learning, appropriate ways to integrate ICT when designing units for their own subjects, technology standards, technology for differentiation, evaluation of technology tools and online resources, as well as maximizing the impact of the tools one has at hand.
